I am a retired veterinary technician and animal control officer. I understand the responsibility of owning a skunk and have wasted one since I was 5 years old and had a neighbor in Maine that used to walk one on a leash.

  Everyone on here looking for a baby skunk, you need to research if they are legal in the state you live in. If they are not legal then they will not have vet care. If the are illegal in your state, the state Department of Wildlife can confiscate your pet. Some states will kill your pet if they confiscate. In the state of GA, Black and White skunks are illegal to own. Do the research.

  @Falesha on February 14 Looking for a skunk for sale in the tennessee or virginia area . Is there a specific process to go through to get a skunk. Skunks are illegal in the state of Tn. There are no vets that will see them and some may even turn you into the Department of Wildlife and if they get you skunk they will kill it. No if, ands or buts they will kill it and some of the officers are so mean they will kill it in front of you. TN will not even allow you to drive through the state with a skunk. Again if they catch you will your pet, regardless of what papers you have they will take the skunk and kill it. Do not attempt to own a skunk in the state of TN.

  Patricia- there are NO breeders in Oregon because it is illegal. Educate yourself on the rules and laws because it is actually the difference in life and death for the babies! It also isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. You cannot rehome them in Oregon if you decide it doesn’t work out.

  Please keep in mind that skunk kits need to eat every four hours as babies. Also, a kits personality doesnt show until it is around four to five months old. Even though you may have followed all of the guidelines and 'rules' and loved your baby skunk properly, it could show a very unpleasant and possibly aggressive personality come the four to five month old mark. This shouldnt be a spur of the moment decision and rash purchase. If you purchase a kit and expect a very loyal and loving animal for the rest of its life, youve got about a 50/50 chance of that happening.
